Mobile App for Spraying Planning - Edge1S

Development of a Mobile App Supporting Spraying Planning for ePlantator

ePlantator

About the client

Edge One Solutions supported the development of the ePlantator mobile application, which helps farmers make decisions about spraying based on precise weather data for specific locations. The solution enables users to mark fields on a map, assign crops to them, check weather conditions, and receive PUSH notifications about weather changes that may affect the effectiveness of plant protection treatments.

Tools and technologies used

  • Android SDK
  • Google Maps API
  • Firebase
  • iOS SDK
  • Challenges

Farmers often make decisions about spraying based on general weather forecasts or intuitive knowledge gained through experience. This approach may not always be sufficient, as weather conditions can vary depending on the specific field location, crop type, and timing of the treatment.

The lack of precise weather data for a specific field may lead to lower effectiveness of plant protection treatments. In practice, this means the risk of spraying at the wrong time, wasting plant protection products, and facing difficulties in planning work at the level of individual fields.

The goal of the project was to create a mobile application that enables farmers to make decisions based on precise weather data for specific locations. The solution was designed to simplify daily fieldwork planning, introduce field mapping and crop assignment, and increase the effectiveness of spraying by improving the timing of treatments.

  • Scope of work by Edge One Solutions

Edge One Solutions supported the development of a mobile application whose features addressed the specific needs of farmers planning plant protection treatments.

    The scope of work included:

    • development of a mobile application for fieldwork users,
    • enabling users to mark fields on a map,
    • implementation of crop assignment to specific fields,
    • providing access to weather conditions for selected locations,
    • connecting weather data with specific crops,
    • implementation of a PUSH notification system,
    • informing users about weather changes affecting spraying effectiveness,
    • designing intuitive UX adapted to fieldwork conditions,
    • supporting daily agricultural work planning.

  • Solutions

The Edge One Solutions team created a mobile application that allows farmers to mark fields on a map and assign specific crops to them. This enables users to analyze weather conditions not at the level of a general forecast, but in relation to the actual location of a field.

The application provides access to weather data for specific locations and crops. This is especially important when planning spraying, because the effectiveness of plant protection treatments depends on conditions in a specific place and at a specific time.

An important element of the solution is the PUSH notification system. The application informs users about weather changes that may affect spraying effectiveness. This allows farmers to react faster, reschedule a treatment, or better plan when work should be carried out.

The application interface was designed with fieldwork conditions in mind. Users should be able to quickly mark a field, check conditions, and receive important information without unnecessary complexity.

  • Project significance for the AgriTech sector

In digital agriculture, the value of a mobile application depends on whether it truly supports decisions made in the field. Farmers do not need only general weather information — they need data that can be connected to a specific field, crop, and activity, such as spraying.

AgriTech applications should combine ease of use with practical value. Field mapping, weather data, notifications, and an intuitive interface help move decisions from intuition and general forecasts toward more precise planning.

The ePlantator project shows how mobile technology can support everyday agricultural work — not by replacing the farmer’s experience, but by providing relevant data at the right time and in the right context.
